Alpacas are the stars in our petting zoo

In the Alps and in the beautiful Ötztal valley they were hardly to be found until a few years ago, although they have their home in the high mountains: Alpacas originally come from the high valleys of the Andes in South America. But in the petting zoo of the Veitenhof you and especially your children can quickly get acquainted with the llama-like mini camels, which are known for their friendly character and their wonderfully soft wool.

Like all camels, alpacas, although they do not have humps, are very social animals and feel most comfortable in pairs or groups. Fritz and Ferdi, the alpacas in our petting zoo, will immediately accept you as guests at the Veitenhof into their "group". Petting, playing and helping to feed them are fascinating nature experiences with these peace-loving animals, especially for our younger guests. As herbivores, they feed almost exclusively on grasses. And also thanks to their shoulder height of almost one meter, the alpacas form real "highlights" in the petting zoo of the Veitenhof among its other inhabitants.

While alpacas in their original homeland in southern Peru, western Bolivia and northern Chile are mainly kept for their wool, in Europe they are also used in animal-assisted therapy due to their calm nature and sympathetic appearance. If you enjoy an all-round relaxing vacation on our organic farm in the Ötztal, contact with the alpacas in our petting zoo will therefore certainly be one of the highlights of your stay, and not only for your children.
