Our Farm Chronicle

In the year 1540, a LEITER is mentioned for the first time in the Ötztal by name.

Only 24 years later, a Hannsn LEITER appears in NIEDERTHAY in the year 1564. Shortly before this time, two LEITER brothers, Michael and Hans, must have arrived in Niederthay and married local farmer's daughters.

According to family legend, the LEITER family came over the Gleirschjoch from Sellrain. The surname LEITER originates from those living on the slope (Leiten).

In any case, the first LEITERs in NIEDERTHAY arrived with money and knowledge in their new homeland. Within one generation, these LEITERs owned 8 houses in NIEDERTHAY and appointed the village authority (mayor).

Our hamlet name "VIECHTAW" is first documented in the lease agreement in the 5th line on September 1, 1299: "This has happened, from the birth of Christ, one thousand and two hundred years in the ninth and ninetieth year on St. Egidius' day."

From 1599, there is a 3rd LEITER branch in Niederthay—from this branch, in the 14th generation, 11 of whom lived at the Höfle, come our ancestors.

August (Gustl) was born in 1948 as the 11th of 13 children at the Höfle "VIECHTAW".

In 1966, at the age of 18, Gustl took over the farm after a rockfall.

In 1970, the existing house with 20 guest beds was ready for occupation.

In November 1974, another rockfall occurred at the Höfle, leading to the construction of protective dams.
